Tattoo Supplies

Making Sure You Have the Tattoo Supplies That You Need
By Adriana N.

Tattoo SuppliesIt does not matter what level of tattoo artist you are. From the beginning you will need a list of supplies kept on hand and close by. Of course, the machine that that will be used is the most important. That one item will probably change the most throughout your career as you learn more and become more advanced. And do not forget about the needles and inks that you will end up choosing.

You can always buy each piece individually. There will be times that all you will need is one specific thing or two. But, to save time and money, sometimes it is easier to buy your supplies in what is called a kit. As for prices, that just depends on what you are wanting and the quality of the pieces within it.

Tattoo SuppliesIn your standardized kit you will most likely receive a tattoo machine, or, in other words, a tattoo gun. They consist of three pieces such as the coil wrap, the grip, and the tips. There is also the power supply and the pedal along with attached cables to make your machine run. To keep your machine together and running, you will need rubber bands, rubber rings, and grommets.

There are several things that you still need for basic tattooing supplies that may not come in a kit. Needles, for one, may be one of those things. You can buy them individually or in large quantities. The sizes and types vary depending on your preference as an artist. Then, there is practice skin. When trying out a new machine, this can come in handy so you can get some practice in before working on real skin.

Tattoo SuppliesWhen looking for ink, you have as many colors to choose from as you can find. From one brand to another, it is not only the color that matters, but its consistency and how it is made. Different inks are good for different skin tones and types, including covering up scars. Most tattoo inks are derived from metals, which can cause skin irritations. If this is a concern that you have while choosing your inks, there are also organic inks to consider.

The needle, or needles, that you use are one of the most important items that you will use. Once again, what the artistic preference is, really determines what kind of needles that will be bought. The different setups include round, flat, and magnum.

Needles are not the only disposable item that you will be using. There are paper towels, surgical gloves antiseptic spray, petroleum jelly, ink cups, and a cream or gel that goes on to the tattoo when the process is over. These not only make the tattooing process safe, but just a bit more convenient when they are on hand and close by.

Tattoo SuppliesIt is not very difficult to find the standard tattoo supplies. As you get into the higher quality items or more unique, then it can become difficult. Although the parts are interchangeable, your machine will remain a constant throughout your career. Most of your other supplies though, will be disposable and will continuously need to be replaced.
